We make clothes that are still worth wearing in ten years.

That sentence is easy to write and difficult to mean. Everything below is an account of what we actually do to try to make it true — including the parts that have not worked.

01 — Philosophy

Restraint is a decision, not an absence.

Every season a buyer asks why we do not do colour. The honest answer is that we do — twelve of them — but none are loud, and that reads as an absence to anyone expecting a seasonal palette.

A seasonal colour story creates an obligation to replace. If the defining feature of a garment is that it is this year's shade, then next year it is last year's shade, and the garment has been designed with an expiry date built into it. Black, bone, ash, olive and navy do not expire.

Working monochrome also removes the easiest way to make a garment interesting. There is nowhere to hide a bad shoulder line behind a print. Every flaw becomes a silhouette flaw, and silhouette flaws are visible from across a room. That is the argument for it.

Mission

Make fewer things, and make them properly.

Thirty pieces in the permanent collection. Nine released this season out of sixty-one prototypes. The constraint is deliberate: a range small enough that every garment can be justified individually, and large enough to dress someone completely.

Vision

A wardrobe you can still replace in five years.

Essentials are restocked continuously and never discontinued. If a piece you rely on wears out, you should be able to buy the same one again — same pattern, same weight, same mill. That is a smaller business than the alternative. We think it is the correct one.

0 People in the studio

Pattern cutters, a sample machinist, and four who do everything else.

0 Partner mills

Family-run, in northern Portugal. Two since the first season.

0 Patterns archived

Every pattern we have cut, including the retired ones.

0 Plastic polybags used

At any point in the supply chain, including mill to studio.

02 — The atelier

The pattern wall

One wall of the studio holds every pattern ORIGIN has ever cut — roughly four hundred pieces of card, hung by year. It exists because a pattern you cannot find is a pattern you will redraw badly.

When a customer writes to say a five-year-old jacket has failed at the shoulder, we can pull the original card, confirm the seam allowance, and know within an hour whether it was a construction error or ordinary wear. Twice it has been our error. Both times we replaced the garment.

An archive is not nostalgia. It is accountability with a filing system.
03 — Timeline

Seven years, briefly

04 — Standards

What we commit to

These are auditable claims, not values statements. If we break one, say so and we will publish the correction.

05 — Careers

Working here

We hire rarely and slowly. When we do, it is usually because a specific craft skill is missing rather than because headcount is a goal. Everyone in the studio spends time on the floor with the samples, regardless of their title.

There are no open roles at the moment. If you cut patterns, machine samples, or grade for production and you want to be in the file, write to us with what you have made.
